Beginnings
Based in Hertford, and drawing its members mainly from Hertfordshire, Mimram Big Band is a contemporary big band named after the River Mimram in Hertfordshire (one of only 180 chalk rivers in the World).
The band was started from scratch in 2015 from a group of friends, contacts, and players who responded to posters inviting them to join. The early years were a little episodic, and the band had a couple of different names, and various changes of personnel.

Change
The band evolved into its present format and identity in 2018, and the name Mimram Big Band was adopted. Consistency of players and rehearsal schedules followed.
Inevitably, Covid-19 put band activities on hold, and planned gigs were cancelled. Once restrictions were lifted, rehearsals got back underway, albeit with some changes to band members and we returned to gigging.

Now
The line-up comprises trumpets, trombones, saxophones, keyboard, electric guitar, bass, and drums: with a couple of players doubling as vocalists.
We play big band arrangements in various musical styles ranging from Glenn Miller to Aerosmith, via jazz, Latin, funk and pop. We are lucky that James, our guitarist, and Yann, our keyboard player, have arranged a number of pieces specifically for Mimram Big Band.
The band is available to play at events, functions and occasions. We can be contacted using our contacts page. We look forward to entertaining you!
